Trout from the Springville Fisheries used to restock state's ponds

Rainbow Trout from the Springville Fisheries will be used to help restrock public fishing ponds across the Wasatch Front this spring.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Rresources started the restocking this week, and the fish will be restocked on a weekly basis throughout the spring. The restocking program was created so people don't have to travel far to enjoy fishing.

"We manage all these waters, but specifically for community fishing waters across the state, we heavily stock them for the purpose of giving Utah's public enjoyment.," said Tonya Keiffer with the DWR Community Fisheries Program.

Public meeting to discuss future of Provo's parks and recreation

Provo City is planning for the future of parks, recreation and trails in Provo.

In October 2011, the City began a nine-month process to develop a Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  This process is grounded in multiple forms of community input that is being utilized to develop the plan.  These include multiple public meetings, numerous focus groups and interviews, and a statistically-valid household survey.

The consulting team led by PROS Consulting, LLC, has been hired by the City to assist in organizing and facilitating the planning process, and to produce the final plan.   PROS Consulting is a specialized management consulting firm that uniquely serves public park and recreation all over the United States and internationally.  The PROS Consulting team members are former parks and recreation managers themselves, and are renowned for assisting communities to develop strategically ambitious and financial conservative parks and recreation systems.  The project team will utilize public input to identify the community’s prevailing needs, interests, values, and priorities related to parks, recreation, trails, and recreational fields for the next 10 years.

BYU falls just short against No. 8 Duke

PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Spurred on by its boisterous home crowd, BYU gave visiting Duke all it could handle.

The young Cougars fell just short of pulling off an upset of the eighth-ranked Blue Devils.

Chelsea Gray scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half and added a career-high six steals to lead Duke to a 61-55 win over BYU on Friday night.

"We had some unforced turnovers at crucial times," BYU coach Jeff Judkins said. "But we had a lot of young kids out there. We're going to learn from this game as a team. Hopefully we can just get better."

The Cougars outrebounded the Blue Devils 41-36 and forced 17 turnovers. Unfortunately they had 22 turnovers of their own.
