SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Chyleen A. Arbon, an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University's Romney Institute of Public Management, to serve on the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.

“With a complementary perspective and extensive background in public administration and criminal justice policy, Chyleen will be an excellent addition,” said Governor Herbert. “She comes to the board with an impressive resume. Her expertise will help ensure respect for victims and their pain, while making certain that offenders are reintroduced into society with appropriate punishment and rehabilitation.”

"I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve the State of Utah in this capacity. I hope to bring a unique and useful perspective to the board,” Arbon said. My career and research have been guided by the commitment to creating fair and effective criminal justice policy, and I am eager to continue this pursuit."

Arbon has previously worked as an assistant professor for the Romney Institute and as a Policy Analyst in the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel. She has received a variety of recognitions and awards, including Romney Institute of Public Management “Professor of the Year,” the Criminal and Juvenile Justice System Service Award and the Public Service Award from the Department of Corrections.

Arbon received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Public Administration from Brigham Young University, before receiving a PhD in Public Administration and American Government and Politics from the University of Utah. Arbon also serves on the Utah State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Employment Advisory Council to the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
